Every year Community Health Centers across the US, celebrate National Health Center Week. This week is dedicated to recognizing the contributions and the amazing services that health centers provide for those of us who do not have health insurance and cannot afford normal doctor visit costs. They have become the primary care medical home for millions of Americans, for people who struggle financially and do not have the resources to take care of themselves. The 2013 theme is: Celebrating America’s Health Centers: Transforming Health Care in Our Local Communities. Community Health Centers will host events and encourage the community to visit these celebrations in order to educate the public on their mission and on the value of health centers. Not only do health centers provide high-quality and cost-effective health care, they have played a huge role in the nations recovery and reinvestment efforts.

For the most part, Health Centers are helping those in need due to:

  • Low income
  • Lack of insurance
  • Where they live
  • Language they speak
  • Complex health care needs

Health Centers focus on how they can transform people’s lives for the better. They have discovered a way to deliver quality and cost-effective care while also employing thousands of individuals! There is no doubt that since they partner with local, state and national organizations, in the fight to provide better care for the community, they are certainly making a difference in our lives and the lives of millions!

Each year the National Association of Community Health Centers sets aside three days during National Health Center Week to recognize special populations served by health centers:
1. PUBLIC HOUSING HEALTH CENTERS DAY - Tuesday, August 13, 2013
2. HEALTH CARE FOR THE HOMELESS DAY - Wednesday, August 14, 2013
3. FARMWORKER HEALTH DAY - Thursday, August 15, 2013

Don’t forget to thank your local health centers for all they do for you!
